★ Maybe you were dreaming, and your soul slipped sideways a little. Maybe you're just a lost spirit who wound up in this cosmos by accident. Either way, you're here now, on the astral plane.
Where are you?
OPTION ONE:
FOR SOME REASON, you've washed up on the cloud-shores of Venus.
Don't worry, this place is nothing like the physical Venus; it actually smells of roses and seaspray, and the sand is Bermuda-pink. Up a gentle hill from the beach stands a great walled complex, carved into the mountain beyond and sprawling out along the hillside. It has lovely marble columns and a faintly ancient feel.
A path leads from the beach up to the gate of the temple of the goddess of love. Right now the only person walking on it is a young man in jeans and a t-shirt, carrying a caduceus-shaped staff; he hasn't noticed you yet.
OPTION TWO:
SOMEHOW your soul fell into the Great Red Spot of Jupiter, so of course the only place you can take shelter is in a cave on the side of Mount Olympus.
The storms rage relentlessly beyond the cave mouth. It's actually quite a large cave, scattered with strange dismembered marble statues and paintings on the walls of flowers and...something dancing that might be women or it might be bees.
There is a faint flicker of firelight from further into the cavern, around a broad bend.
OPTION THREE:
ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER and now you're in the bit of the astral plane that maps to Wikipedia.
It looks like a wild city, bustling with activity, transactions being made, gossip being shared; around one corner is a block of shantytown and around another a fabulous, well-maintained palace. It's all like that. The new gods and godlings who were shut out of Heaven have made the internet their home on the astral plane.
Maybe you stepped into this alleyway by accident, or maybe you were actually trying to get your bearings. Either way, you find yourself face to face with a young man in a cat t-shirt, carrying a staff with a design like two serpents embracing at the top.
He blinks at you in surprise; he'd been using this alley to cut through from the other side.

It was a kind of sudden departure for me.

Then you're not a visiting supplicant?
[ he's starting to look puzzled ]
You don't seem like another spirit of eros...
no subject
Eros like erotic?
no subject
Yes, exactly like that!
You don't know where you are? This is Aphrodite's temple, dear.

[ throws back his head and laughs, it's a little exaggerated but not entirely fake. ]
Aphrodite? Like, the myth?
no subject
Yes, like the myth! Where did you think you were?
no subject
Dead or dreaming, that's how it should be, right?
no subject
But you don't seem like the usual new arrival.

Unexpected people, unexpected places.
